Once connected, verify that everything's working by using Safari to surf the Web. You can use the iPod touch WiFi to connect to the Internet using Safari web browser, YouTube, or iTunes WiFi Music Store.
How does the iPod Touch connect to the WiFi
When you use the Safari, YouTube or the iTunes WiFi Music Store, the iPod touch automatically does the following in order until it is connected:- If you had previously connected, your iPod Touch automatically connects to the last WiFi network you used.
- If this is the first time you are connecting or if the previously used WiFi networks are not available, the iPod touch will scan for WiFi networks and show a list of networks in the range. Tap a network to join or connect to it. If the network shows a lock icon next to it then you need to provide a password to connect.
- If the WiFi network is configured not to broadcast or be displayed to the public an option to manually enter your WiFi network name/SSID is shown. If necessary, enter the password to join.
When iPod touch is connected to a WiFi network, the WiFi icon in the status bar at the top of the screen shows connection strength. The more bars you see, the stronger the connection.
How to change the iPod Touch Wi-Fi settings
To Turn iPod Touch WiFi ON or OFF
Choose Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi ON or OFF. Set iPod touch to ask if you want to join a new WiFi network
When you are trying to access the Internet, by using Safari or YouTube for example, and you are not in range of a WiFi network you have previously used, this option tells iPod touch to look for another network. iPod touch will display a list of all available WiFi networks that you can choose from. Networks that require a password appear with a lock icon.If "Ask to Join New Networks" is turned off, you must manually join a network to connect to the Internet when a previously used network is unavailable. Choose WiFi and turn "Ask to Join Networks" on or off. If you turn "Ask to Join Networks" off, you must join networks manually.
Join a WiFi network manually
Choose WiFi, wait a moment as iPod touch detects available WiFi networks in range, then choose a network. If necessary, enter a password and tap Join. Networks that require a password appear with a lock icon.
Make iPod touch forget a WiFi network
Choose WiFi and tap the arrow next to a network you've joined before. Then tap "Forget this Network" When you do this the iPod Touch doesn't join the network automatically.
Connect to a closed WiFi network or a network that isn't shown
Choose WiFi, then tap Other and enter the network name. If the network requires a password, choose Security, tap the type of security the network uses, and enter the password. You must already know the network name, password, and security type to connect to a closed network.
iPod Touch WiFi Troubleshooting Tips
If you are still having the following issues then follow the fixes below. Issues:
- iPod Touch shows no WiFi address (Tap Settings > General > About and scroll down to WiFi Address.
- iPod touch appears to be connected to a WiFi network but cannot use Wi-Fi for checking email and surfing the Internet.
- iPod Touch WiFi icon is showing as grayed out.
- When you tap Settings > WiFi and then you see no network entries.
Fixes for iPod Touch WiFi issues:
First you need to back up your data by syncing your iPod touch to iTunes. It is very important you do this before proceeding with the fixes below.
Fix 1:
On the iPod Touch go to Settings > General > Reset and then select Reset Network Settings. Now see if the device displays the WiFi address under Settings > General > About and scrolling down to WiFi Address. If there is a WiFi address listed then you issue is resolved. Else try Fix 2 below.
Fix 2:
On the iPod Touch go to Settings > General > Reset and then select Erase All Content and Settings. Now see if the device displays the WiFi address under Settings > General > About and scrolling down to WiFi Address. If there is a WiFi address listed then you issue is resolved. Else try Fix 3 below.
Fix 3:
If the above fixes don't work then the only thing left is to restore the iPod touch software using iTunes which will erase all data on the device. So before restoring make sure you back up your data by syncing with iTunes.
After the restore is complete, you can resync with iTunes to load the data back to your iPod Touch. Now see if your device shows a WiFi address (tap Settings > General > About and scroll down to WiFi Address). If none of the above settings and fixes work ,then you might want to consider getting your iPod touch repaired by Apple.
Is there any way to save the settings for a closed network? I have my home router closed and I hate to keep entering the security key every time I want to connect my iPod touch.
ReplyDeleteI've got 2 bars stength on the ipod but it will not use the companies wifi to connect to itunes, utube etc.
ReplyDeleteCAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE I WOULD FIND THE WIRELESS CONFIGURATIONS AT. THIS ITOUCH IS ALL NEW TO ME AND I'M TOTALLY LOST.
ReplyDeleteWireless configs are in Settings.
ReplyDeleteWhen connecting to a secure network is there a risk of exposing the security key once the iPod touch is connecting to the internet?
ReplyDeleteWhere do i find these passwords at to get on a locked network

ReplyDeletei bought my ipod from a friend and the wi-fi networks were already on it how do i change them to the ones i want?
ReplyDeletequestion: when my iTouch is connected to a WiFi network, what displays from the network admin standpoint? What info can they see about my profile (if any)? name, ip, etc.
ReplyDeletei see an unprotected network showing up in my configurations but it won't let me connect to the internet. if i go to safari, it says im not connected. but i see the checkmark and the 3 curved arcs in the top left corner showing im connected.
ReplyDeleteWhen I go into Safari I can see my network it has the padlock and the 3 curved arches. I click the network and am asked for a password. I enter password and click join. I get the following message unable to join the network
ReplyDeleteWhen I look for wireless networks, mine doesn't show up unless i type it in; in other...When i do try to connect with it, it says 'unable to join "________"' HELP PLEASE :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to wireless networks it shows my router but it cannot connect. Am I to put in a WEP number? If so where do I put it? I have worked with this for a week and I can't get it connected. Please help!!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading about how difficult you were finding setting up an ipod on a network. If you have never set up a network, you really should not have purchased an ipod touch. If you still want to set it up, get a professional to help you. All you are doing is showing your level of knowledge as that not worthy of reply!
ReplyDeleteIT will cost you, but, face it, a 5 minute setup is how long it takes, if you know what you are doing. Is this worth it?
Only you can answer that.
how i find the pasword for connect
ReplyDeleteI have selected the network i want and entered the password it shows the arcs that tell me if i'm connected but when i try to access the internet it says there is no connection.
ReplyDeleteits called a bar not an ark stupid
ReplyDeleteFuck you august 31, you probly live wit ur mom
ReplyDeleteI find you a very nasty person. Instead of helping someone you put them down. I hope you run into the same kind of responses when you someday need help!

ReplyDeletewat if there is only locked icons and u dont no the password... then wat do i DO!!!!??!
ReplyDeleteif it isn't your internet, and there is a password on it - you shouldn't be on it anyway.
ReplyDeleteif it is your internet - then go to your router's configuration page under security and put in either the WEP or WPA key.
my wifi wont work i dont know the the user name or password
ReplyDeletehelp!!!!!!!!!
great
ReplyDeletemy wifi says it has full power but when i click on safari it wont load up?
ReplyDeleteis there a good app for locating and connecting to wifi hotspots while away from home?
ReplyDeleteget a life every 1
ReplyDeletedoes anybody know the password for USQC3
ReplyDeleteOmg. Is there a site for people who actually know what they are doing? A locked signal is locked so that if you don't know the password, you can't use it! Your iPod will automatically detect wireless signals around it. If you don't know the code to join, the person who owns it doesn't want you to and locked it. Lack of free wifi signal means you have either set up your own with router and modem or go somewhere it's free like the library to get your iPod online or to access any features that require it.
ReplyDeleteThe original question was for anyone with knowledge on how to save a password to a wireless signal you are authorized to access? Is this possible?
well said november 18th
ReplyDeletei also need to answer to the original question,
ive had my itouch for a year now, and it used to connect automatically to my route from home, after only entering the password once. i recently had to reset to the original settings, and from then on it doesnt pick up any wireless signals around it, and i have to manually enter the details very single time, very annoying as its very long! help would be appreciated,

iTouch, what a waste. I bought a 64G $400 paperweight as there's almost never an available WiFi connection around. Hell, I was at an embassy suites with free WiFi and the stupid iTouch wasn't even picking it up.
ReplyDeleteThere is a option called Ask to Join a New Network.Yours is turned Off.Just turn it back to On and it should work like before
ReplyDeleteTo connect to the Internet you need to buy it and password the connection which then it will be locked from people around you to use because you paid for it.
If your lucky sombody around you may not have password protected there Internet and then you can join(steal there bandwidth) it no problem.
You can also go find a hotspot which is a place like a coffee shop or something like that to connect to the Internet for free.
this is novermber 21, 7.35am
ReplyDeletereply to november 23; what if it is on, and the network is still not being picked up? definately works on other itouchs, my sisters is perfect.
Hmm. Not sure then
ReplyDeleteTry turning wifi off then on
-try a reset again and make sure everything is updated after
You could also try something like wifi track or something like that.
I don't really know if apps like that will help you but that's something to look in to
gl
just bought the Nazi Zombie app- downloaded over my wireless internet connection ok. However tried playing the multiplayer online option and it says my network isnt configured to play online games???? How can that be if I downloaded it over the same connection? Any ideas how I can get it working online?
ReplyDeleteIt's probably your router firewall which is preventing you to game online.
ReplyDeleteGo to your router configuration and there it may have a game mode setting and if not then you need open up a port.
If you don't know how to configure it just phone tech support.
If your router came with your Internet subscription phone them and they should be able to walk you through it.
thanks- does this mean I would have to go through this process for every game downloaded?
ReplyDeleteforgot to add- I play on line with other apps already, no problem- seems to be just this game
ReplyDeletemy wifi is conected but when i try get any online stuff like email its saying pop3.live.com failed??? cant get on bejeweled blitz that plays via facebook. have no idea why as my wifi is ok. help someone please its driving me mad
ReplyDeletei have a young relative who wants an ipod touch. however the family prefers that she not connect to the internet or receive emails using wifi. is there a way to disable this function on the touch.
ReplyDeleteSounds like firewall issues
ReplyDeleteand for your young relative
yes you can but it just turns it on/off to save battery life
there are many different programs at the iTunes web store but I don't know about parental control ones. Best thing to do is to browse there to see if there is any that will do that.
if its firewall issues how do i resolve it??
ReplyDeleteDudes,
ReplyDeleteThe way I have found to save the wifi password instead of entering the bloody thing over and over is go to:
Settings/wi-fi/ then you will see a option to 'ask to join networks' set it to OFF. This way, it won't keep asking you everytime.
I just tried it on my 64gb touch with 3.1.2 firmware.
Fixed.
i had to get a new router, and change my password on the network with the same network name. how can i enter the new password on the wifi setting of my ipod touch. any help will be appreicated.
ReplyDeleteIf the network you are trying to connect to is password protected then it will ask you automatically for the password i guess if it. Doesn't then do what the post above yours says
ReplyDeleteI have my own home wifi password protected. (only 4 digits)
ReplyDeleteTouch see's the connection but would not allow 4 digits needed 8 before join button lights up.
changed password on router to 8 digits. still says unable to connect. although 2 other computers and Wii connect. Any suggestions?
i forgot the router password and i was wondering instead of going through hrs of trying to find the password could i just connect the ipod to the computer and then do something from there. someone said that u could but i dont no how....any ideas.thnkx
ReplyDeleteIf you got your router from your ISP call them and they should be able to reset/tell you your password.
ReplyDeleteYour iPod should have come with a USB cable to connect to the computer.
how do you get the paswords for the wifi things im so confused
ReplyDeleteThe passwords you want are your neighbours password protected Internet connection and it's passworded because they bought the service and they don't like people stealing there bandwidth.
ReplyDeleteWifi is basically the method of connecting to an Internet source without using a Wire like a Bluetooth connection.
Find a free Internet connection called hotspots. They are usually coffe shops and libraries
I've just got an ipod touch. I'm trying to connect through safari and am getting the following message
ReplyDeleteCANNOT OPEN PAGE
Safari cannot open this page.
The error was "Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument".
What am I doing wrong?
I have had a home wireless network for quite some time now and have many computing devices attached to it; kids school laptops, Wii's, DS's, etc. I found the iPod terminolgy for wireless setup to be non-intuitive and uncommon to most commonplace computing. I could not get my daughters iPod Touch to prompt for the Security type from the automatic list of network devices no matter what I did.
ReplyDeleteI was able to get it to work by:
1 - going to "Other...", typing the network "Name" in manually (be careful to make sure it is exact, case, numbers and all),
2 - select the "Security" type WEP or WPA (mine is WEP becuase this is common to Nintendo and public school Windows access setups), and then
3 - enter one of your WEP keys into the iPod field for "Password".
I am using a DLink wireless router behind 2 additional layers of firewall protection with Network Magic. Network Magic immediately recognized that the iPod device requested access with the proper security settings but had flagged it aa a potential intruder. I had to then go tell Network Magic the device was not an intruder and to manually provide the router manager with device identification settings (ie device name) because the iPod did not send it over.
The iPod then placed a check mark beside the original network list entry to show that it was connected. You can then check details about whether the router has completely enabled the iPod by navagating through the little > to the far right. You should see numbers for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router and DNS. This tells you you are fully recognized by your wireless network typically all the way out to the internet.
I hope this helps.
Sooo frustrating - I've been getting the same "... invalid argument" response for two days now and I don't know why! I've tried the recommendations as posted by the last individual to no avail. Is this problem related to my router, firewall or just my ridiculously-insufficient knowledge of all 21st century technology?
ReplyDeletePLEASE, HELP!?!
Wireless router's have a security layer that can protect it by only allowing certain Mac address's to access it. Your Mac address can be found in the general setting button on the Itouch. Once you have that # you need to access the wireless router on the network your attemptong to access. This can be done by using a computer that is already linked to the system. In other words if the internet is working your hooked. Then type the following 192.168.0.1 generally that is the default ip address for the router. An access screen should appear. You will need that info to continue. Generally the default code if one is'nt set is admin (username) then no password. Sometimes the password will be admin again. Once inside the router config, go to the wireless tab. It's diffrent on various models. there should be a tab in that setting to add or block Mac address's. If the setting to block is turned on, you will need to add your Mac address to the list there. use the format shown to enter the address. Generally it is 12:24:ad: so on and so forth depending on what Mac address you have. Then save the settings and that should do it.
ReplyDeletei cant get a password its sooo hard
ReplyDeletewhat's the password to 2wire302
ReplyDeleteHelp
ReplyDeletecall your internet company like att et.
ReplyDeleteAm I just not understanding some of these questions?
ReplyDeleteFirst off passwords are just that passwords just like your pin number to your bank card.
Internet is not free unless you find a Hot spot so most people password protect there Internet connection and some just forget or just don't know how.
Your iPod finds in a limited radius all the Internet connection, password protected or not.
I have an iPod touch and in my opinion it's just a fun little gadget but if you want to check email and surf the net anywhere anytime use a 3g phone or something like that until it gets more advanced
December 28th person who explained how to do it, so heres the problem. Dad said the password was admin for our home linksys system. Used it and it showed the arcs that i had wifi, i went to go use the wifi and all it says is "connecting" and there is full bars! its really frusterating me! how do i solve this? also the password 1234567890 worked as well, so i dont know which one it is. But i just need help! Do i have to go to the router from my computer and let it allow my ipod like you said? if so how do i get there and what are all the steps!
ReplyDeletethanks!
i think i have wi-fi..& i asked my mom wat r network is and i dont get how does this work? when u plug it in to ur puter..does it pick it up then?...wat should i try doing?please help!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you hook the ipod up to a laptop with the usb cord is there away to make the ipod work using the internet from the laptop? This might be a stupid question but I live in the middle of nowhere and we have sprint wireless and I dont know how else it would get a internet connection to the ipod out here!

ReplyDeleteEveryone have a HAPPy NEW YEAR!
Anyone who needs to figure out how to connect to a wireless secure network. When it asks for a password type in the wep which for me was located on the side of my router(FIOS). This should work.
ReplyDeletewhat is my url trying to connect ipod to wifi
ReplyDeleteIf you don't know your password to connect to the Internet then you don't have one and it's at default so anyone close enough can connect to it.
ReplyDeleteThe arcs people are talking about is the signal strength of the Internet connection to you. Three arcs - high, medium, and low.
On the connection list on your iPod if you set up security on your connection then the name you used in the set up should show up.
Have you guys been scrolling farther down the list because you might be only looking at half the list and yours is close to the bottom.
If you haven't set yours up with a security then in the list the name might be default or the name of your router make.
Your iPod has a wifi Internet connection and no LAN line connections so if you don't have a wireless router then your SOL .
When you connect to your computer through the USB you can not get Internet connection you can just file transfer.
If you don't know your own security password and your 100percent sure that is your Internet connection then first go ask the person who set up your Internet why didn't you give me the name and password when you set it up.
Second- read the instructions that came with your wireless router on how to set it up security.
Third- phone your Internet provider for help.
Fourth- if you can't connect it could be a firewall issue
Thank you for everyones help!
ReplyDeleteGo to December 26 8:44 am it WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I am wireless, Thanks who ever sent this. But I must say Apples instructions are quite lame.
okay, same issue as most. Invalid argument. What I have found is that I am connected to my wireless, but somehow got a different IP address. Can anyone tell me how to manually put in my ip address or how to get my dlink router to accept my itouch? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWTF is a WiFi Address???
ReplyDeleteI accidentally changed the name of my wifi Internet name on my iPod and I don't know how I did it. It's got loads of random numbers on it now. How do I change it back to normal? Help!
ReplyDeleteHow could you change your wifi name on your iPod with out knowing?
ReplyDeleteThe only way to change your wifi name is to log in to your wifi router settings and change it there and if you didn't do that then ...WTF
Are you sure you are trying to connect to your wifi?
Try scrolling farther down the list.
I have no idea seriously! It just changed and there were loads of random numbers on it! But it's ok now, it's gone back to normal, and I don't even know how that happened. Thanks for the help anyway :)
ReplyDeleteive had 2 bars and my wifi wont work
ReplyDeleteWHO EVER POSTED THE MESSAGE BELOW THANKS SOOOOOOOO MUCH- HAVE SPENT THE LAST 3 HOURS LOOKING AT AT HTE SUGGESTIONS TO NO AVAIL- EASY WHEN OYU KNOW HOW.....TRY IT IT REALLY WORKED FOR ME..

ReplyDeletethat advice was hella gay
ReplyDeleteMy WiFi is WPA2 security and my bloody iPod Touch can't connect! Damn you Apple! Damn you internet!
ReplyDeleteDec 26 8:44 am answered my dilemma. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteFYI to anyone with Charter Communications as their host and you're trying to set up your email on your new iPod Touch. It can be done although it can also be difficult. Charter is evidently not the iPod's friend. I followed the iPod Touch instructions to the letter but no luck. Then took it to Apple store and rep there could not get the set up to work either. Went home and tried it again and this time just let it sit there for ten minutes while it tried to hook up. It finally worked. The only thing I think I did wrong ealier at home and at the Apple store was that I just didn't wait long enough!
ReplyDeleteim connected to the router but i cant get o to the internet it wont let me. please someone help>
ReplyDeleteHi, a few questions.
ReplyDelete1: What is the password and where can you find it?
2: What does "Invalid Argument" mean? It keeps showing up with a message saying "Unable to join"
3: And what are all the extra fields in the wi-fi connections settings where there's the IP address and stuff?
*From above comment*
ReplyDeleteMy router is a D-link and apparently they aren't compatible with consoles, I don't know about Ipods
I am also technology illiterate.
ReplyDeleteI think I found the password... it accepts my WEP key but then it's when the invalid argument thing comes up...
ReplyDeleteHI IVE BROUGHT A FEW GAMES FROM ITUNES AND IAM TRYING TO LOAD THEM ONTO MY IPOD TOUCH BUT NOT HAVEING MUCH LUCK AS WHEN I TRY TO LOG ON TO THE WI-FI NET WORK NOTHING IS HAPENING. ReplyDeleteget the router IP address from the stick on the back or underside of the router.
ReplyDeleteenter IP address in http search bar.
enter username = admin
enter password = admin
this will display all the router settings.
somewhere here there will be a network key
use this key as your wifi password
any errors relating to safari not connecting? turn off the router for 30 seconds with the ipod switched on. when you switch router back on, the ipod will pick the new IP address and router settings.
ReplyDeletethen everything will be fine.
I finally got it to work using the info posted below. Not sure why it wouldn't take the info any other way but am happy it is working now.

ReplyDeleteI have an Ipod Touch and Iphone come from same OS version 3.1.2. And I have a wireless router at home. Initially, I set wireless router to broadcast SSID where both Iphone and Ipod able to identify the access point. But since I dont want to just let somebody sniffing my access point, I disabled the broadcast of SSID. Unfortunately Ipod can no longer detect the access point while Iphone can still attach to it. Im using D-Link DIR-300 with WPA/WPA2 security mode, TKIP and PSK encryption/authentication. Im thinking this is a bug in my Ipod. Pls help!!

ReplyDeletevery easy to do woderful website for young users like me
ReplyDeletethak you
k so when ever i try to get onto the internet on my ipod, it says "could not scan for wireless networks." is that a hardware issue? or is it just plain broken?
ReplyDeletehow do u connect the wifi
ReplyDeletehey im having problems trying to get onto the internet. When i go onto internet and type in google it tells me the error was"operations could not be completed. Invalid aruement. and i cant seem to get connected to a wiifi network in the settings. This has happened sudendly. Can someone pls help me
ReplyDeletewhat if you are logged into a wifi and you have a strong connection but none of the apps that need wifi will open and neither will the itunes or appstore.
ReplyDeleteFor everyone asking for the password, try either PEBKAC or 1d10t. That is it most of the time. If not then you may have to wipe the ipod by going to the command prompt and typing format c:\ and pressing enter. It may take some time to format a large ipod (32GB+)
ReplyDeleteWHAT SHOULD I DO IF IT DOESNT LET ME JOIN MY HOUSE'S WIFI??? (THANKS)
ReplyDeleteHow do you connect it to my house's wi-fi and what if my computer doesn't have wi-fi or the password. Does the computer have to be Mac? The Network is always something I don't know. How do you set up an wi-fi?
ReplyDeleteplease help!
ReplyDeleteokay well my ipod was connected to my wifi but it wont connect anymore, ive tried everything :/ ?
I was connected to the wifi.but the next day it wasn't connected and nothing worked..help..or or or i will jump off a building.
ReplyDeletewhat do you put for a URL ?? please help!!
ReplyDeleteAll of this is great advice and all , but i cant understand why everybody says just pick a network and then enter a password. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PASSWORD IS AND WHAT ARE THE NAMES OF THESE MAGICAL NETWORKS?????
ReplyDeletei have a touch and i have tried EVERYTHING! i know the password, i tried going to other, but it still won't work! what do i do?!
ReplyDeleteJesus you people are retarded. If you don't know what password to use for a network, chances are you're not allowed to be on that network anyway! If you have your own wireless network at home, then ask the person who set it up for you to assist you.
ReplyDeletei just got verizon fios and its completely wirless but nothing showing up on my ipod touch network helPP
ReplyDeleteWhat does it mean when it says" operation could not be completed. Invalid argument" all I wanted to do was try to get on google. The Ipod isnt letting me use youtube either what is going on with it?
ReplyDeleteits the same person who left the comment about google what i also wanted to say was if this isnt working for me i dont want to take it back to best buy and pay 100 dollars for nothing again so please help me im starting to think this wasent worth it
ReplyDeleteIf you do not know the password for a Wifi connection then either you do not own the wifi or your a complete retard. How hard is it to go into your router and get the wep key...NOT HARD. And if you can't connect because you have wpa security just change it to wep. Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteFor "most" routers all you have to do is go on a computer and in the browser type 192.168.2.1 Or 192.168.1.1 to access your router so you can find your wep key etc etc.
If you don't have a router stop trying to steal wifi from someone else if you bought a ipod touch then you should have enough money to buy a 30 buck wireless router.
my ipod wont connest to the wifi even tho i have the right password it just says unable to join network...

ReplyDeleteMy iPod touch is showing a network connectivity but still I can't sever the Internet, web page doesn't open.
What to do?
Cannot connect to WiFi. Incorrect password. I know that it is correct. It worked the day before. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteAnd they look like arches but they are called bars but if you didn't
ReplyDeleteknow that's fine I'm just telling everyone who didn't know.
I didn't see an answer to this from someone else so I'm reposting.
ReplyDeleteKids just bought Ipod Touches and I have a closed WiFi network. I put in network name and password for them but when the IPods disconnect from the network, they want the password every time. Any way to save it? It's not consistent, and they are kids. I like to keep passwords to protected networks protected and private. I only think to return them to the store and get laptops for them. I know those work.
i just bought my first ipod touch 3rd gen 32 gig, and the only way it would get online was disabling any security on my wireless. my router is a linksys wrt54g2 ver6, i tried wpa,wpa2,wep all of them. it had signal om wep but would not connect.
ReplyDeleteany thought

wats d difference between a router and a wifi...??
will i b able 2 connect my ipod touch only thro' wifi at my home...
how much does a wifi system and a router costs..???
plz help...
A router connects to the internet, and usually provides the wifi. You'll need to connect your device to the router with the built in wifi or an ethernet cable :P
ReplyDeletewhere would u find the password 4 a fios wireless internet box to connect ur ipod to?
ReplyDeletei have been trying to get on to the internet on my ipod touch but it wont let me its saying that it is already connected but it wont let me do anything which involves using the internt
ReplyDeleteMy wife just bought an iPod Touch and I have to say, it is a complete POS to setup. The iPhone was a simple setup, the Touch is a nightmare and if I had known this ahead of time I would have told her to steer clear of this stupid thing. Leave it to Apple to make simple WiFi device setup a chore that doesn't work, funny how it's the only device of 7 wireless devices on my home network that refuses to connect.
ReplyDeletecan you track down an iPod Touch using the wifi address on your computer?
ReplyDeletehow do you connect the laptop to the ipod touch through wi-fi ?
ReplyDeletethat was verry helpful thnx
ReplyDeleteMine shows three arcs and says its connected but when i try to use the internet it cant connect
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the amount of useless info posted here, "your config is in your settings"? How lame. Apple lists the manual's connection to wifi steps but offers no ACTUAL troubleshoot steps or options. For example, there is no image diagram correlating the connection between what Apple labels as settings names and what your wifi/modem/router calls them. This is a disservice to it's customers however it does not stop them from taking your money to their bank. As usual, the manufacturer decides that it is the responsibility of the consumer to get their piece of Cra_p operational.
ReplyDeleteMine suddenly asks for a password where no password exists. This an ipod hardware fault not a network issue.
I can't tell you how many forums are filled with misinformation and confusing verbiage designed to make the contributor feel they've been most helpful
i still dont get it!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteu all suc look at frigin youtube and the wireless router hs to frigin be connected to the internet noobs

ReplyDeleteWHAT DOES RENEW LEASE MEAN?
ReplyDeletejohnny i have tried and tried but it is not going through the wifi network connection has always failed me. plllllllsss help me out. am tied of it.
ReplyDeleteI had WiFi on my 4 G since I opened it at X-Mas, but a few days ago it stopped. Ive done everything suggested and still nothing. I keep getting the same BS "Safari can not open this page cause you are not connected to the internet' The final suggestion is to take it back to Apple for repairs. Apple can suck me!!! Last Ipod I had, the home button stopped working. I took it down to Apple and my warranty expired 2 weeks before the problem occurred. They gave me a quote on how much it would cost to fix it, but for the price, I was better off getting a new one. Well here it is only 6 months later and problems with the new much more expensive Ipod. Im sick of the BS and the run around Apple gives you when theres an issue. On a scale of 1-10, I rate these I-Trash 3.
ReplyDeleteeverytime i try to connect to my home wi-fi, which doesnt have a password, it says "unable to connect." help please!!
ReplyDeleteHow do you store the network password s yu dnt have to enter it every time you connect to the network? This is not very user friendly at all....
ReplyDeleteSo this is all new to me....do I have to have WiFi to download apps? Nothing has been easy about setting this thing up for my daughter....
ReplyDeleteI don't have wifi at my house, can I buy apps on my computer and then download them onto my ipod touch?
ReplyDeleteLike many here have experienced, my ipod touch's wifi connection suddenly stopped working. This was after months of no problems. I tried everything short of wiping everything off it and starting over. I also tried all the (reasonable-sounding) suggestions I read here. What finally worked was to go to settings>wifi then choose my home's wifi by name, then choose "forget network". The next time I tried to connect it asked for the password, I typed it in and it connected. I didn't see this tip so thought I would add it in hopes it helps someone else.
ReplyDeletethe wifi network can be detected through my ipod touch but am not able to connect to it even though i enter the wifi password it says unable to join plz help me my routers wifi connection is perfectly working with the other devices at home but not to my ipod
ReplyDeleteI just got a new iTouch 4g a couple days ago. Its very annoying because I've been trying EVERYTHING to get access to internet at least once. I should return this crap.
ReplyDeleteGood ipod used with wifi.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Black Friday Ipod 8GB
I've generally connected well to every WiFi hotspot network with my new iPod Touch 4G -- EXCEPT my home network!! Usually when I'm stuck I log onto our (Netgear "G") router from one of our laptops, and change the channel. I usually use 1, 6, or 11, because I've heard they are non-overlapping.
ReplyDeleteChanging the channel always lets the iPod connect immediately. I'm guessing that the problem is interference with one of our neighbours using the same (or an adjacent) channel -- but just guessing.
hola quisiera saber si hay forma de que cuando se bloque el ipod touch 4g siga encendido el wifi, por que lo bloqueo y automaticamente desaparece la seƱal wifi y no me llegan las notificaciones, de antemano gracias
ReplyDeleteFIX #2 is the same as restoring your iPod, except for the restore part. IT ERASES ALL CONTENT. Thanks for the warning. BE WARNED!
ReplyDeleteJust like a car, if you took driver's ed or read the manufacturers user manual in the glove box, you can ask questions that can help you. Apple provides a .pdf manual for the iPod that you can download to a computer or get from the app store onto your iPad. It provides clear instructions on how to access wireless network(s). To have access to a closed or hidden network, you need permission first from who manages the network. They will supply you with SSID and password, and type of security to select. Open networks like at schools, libraries and restaurants like Panera Bread or Burger King or bookstores, just ask them for instructions. An iPad is capable of connecting to and storing access choices for several locations. Be very careful at work, as you can be monitored or restricted as to what you can do even on open systems. If you installed your own router it came with a manual or info on a CD. Hopefully you documented what you did to install it. If you purchased or lease a wireless connection such as with ATT or Verizon they should be able to help. Remember that wifi uses a lot of battery power, and your iPod can't be run down if you expect it to work. None of the questions seen here are stupid. Some ill prepared, and some really seem to want to know how to get into someone else's system, and as we and others said not such a good idea. Cracking into someone else's system might gain you access, and it might be destructive to your own device.

ReplyDeleteMy ipod is not connecting to the internet. It does connect to my home wifi but doest connect to internet. Its been like this for 2 days. I have tried resetting network and everything but its still not working. is this happening with anyone else? how can i solve this?
ReplyDeleteI looked in my pokett the other day and noticed that my ipod had selected a secure network, it had the password page up. I didn't type in anything, or attempted a login. I didn't have the codes or permission to access it so I canceled it. I left my wifi on and almost butt-dialed into someones network. I know that people can moniter who's on thier network. Could they have tracked me? I don't want them to think I'm a hacker.
ReplyDeleteCan secure networks steel data from an ipod that hasn't typed in a password yet?
