iPod Touch home button double-click feature

Thursday, September 20, 2007  |  21 comments
One of the good feature of the iPod Touch that the iPhone lacks is the ability to double-click the Home or the tactile button to bring the iPod controls.

Pressing the only tactile button on the player twice makes music controls appear over whatever screen mode you happen to be in—Safari, YouTube, or whatever.

Even if the player is locked, double-clicking will bring up a set of music controls that features track information, play/pause, forward and backward within a playlist or album, a Music button to take you directly to the Now Playing screen, and a Close button to escape.

This function works even if the screen has timed out and gone black, and it's a great quick way to skip that song you hate or pump up the volume on the one you love.

That would be nice. Today I just want my home button to work!! If the pod is sleeping, the home button, if pressed several times, will wake the pod and put me back where I was. (Luckily I'm in my music interface.) But, I can no longer access the main apps navigation screen by pressing the home button. So it makes me think it's not broken hardware, exactly. If it sometimes works to do one thing, but never works to do another thing, then maybe it's a system or firmware problem? Anyone else ever have this trouble?

Resetting all without deleting data has not helped. And various restarts. Nope.

Mine has the same problem. I returned it to Apple and they said no problem was found. It was shipped back to me today. Guess what? It still doesn't work.

I also have developed this problem. I can't start the ipod with the home button. The only way I can turn it on is by using the top button and that takes me to wherever I was when it turned off. The only way I can get back to the "homepage" is by holding down the power switch on top and resetting the ipod. The touch screen still works but the home button does nothing. I've deleted everything and done a clean restore with no change. It seems the home button circuit is dead. It will do absolutely nothing. My ipod is the 1st gen with all the latest software and firmware updates. Any ideas?? I guess Apple is my next stop.

Following up on my Oct 28 post. I took my ipod touch to the apple store yesterday for them to look at and possibly fix. One of the "Genius's" looked at it and tested it and declared it broken. As my warranty was expired by 1 month, it was no longer covered. When he started looking over my account with Apple, he noticed I've had a dot mac account for a few years now and I've registered software and computers for years. When all was said and done I'm now getting a new touch as a free replacement. Ya gotta these guys. They really do know how to treat loyal customers.

hey i have the same problem, but i actully dont mind because the home button for me doesnt work when i press it, it works when i touch it, all i do is touch it, double touch it, and it does the same thing as pressing it. Ive thought about sending it to apple, but i got used to it, and really like it, kinda like a one of a kind itouch to me, lol. But does anyone kno why this happens? would like to kno if anyone knew. So to all you who have this problem, try touching the home button, hope it works as it did for me! Maybe the 3rd itouch gen will have a touch home button, haha.

Got to settings - general - home - search. It makes the double-click show music without opening the music app.
